Tips & Tricks to Teach Your Kids About Fire Safety

•    Create an escape plan together and practice it twice a year or more. This is also a great time to change the batteries in all smoke detectors. While you are at it, check on your carbon monoxide alarms as well.
•    Draw your escape plan on grid paper and hang it on the fridge.
•    Make sure everyone in your family knows 2 exits per room.
•    Stress to children that they should never re-enter a room, home or building once they’ve escaped.
•    Teach children what to do if you get separated or if they have to escape without you.
•    Teach kids the stop-drop-roll method and to always stay low to the ground.
•    Plan a visit to your local fire station and have children ask them any questions they may have.
•    Stress the importance of PREVENTING fires to begin with. Practice smart fire extinguishing when outdoors as well as tips for household items, such as candles, stovetops, batteries, dryer lint, etc
