Wolf Creek Falls Hike
Join the Park Naturalist from Tuscarora State Park at 10:30 a.m., May 18, 2017 for a spectacular hike to Wolf Creek Falls in Saint Clair. We will meet at the North end of the Wal-Mart parking lot off PA Route 61 in the Coal Creek Commerce Center. This hike is seven miles in length and rated difficult. The hike is dog-friendly, but all pets must be leashed and get along well with people and other pets. Bring water and a lunch. Bog Turtles
Join Naturalist George Gress at Locust Lake State Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. for a program on bog turtles. George is a Fire Specialist/Land Steward for the Nature Conservancy and manages the bog turtle program in Pennsylvania. Bog turtles are the smallest turtles that occur here in PA. They are federally listed as threatened and are protected under the Endangered Species Act . George is also an avid nature photographer and his photos have been featured in various publications. Come along on a photo journey into the habitat and lives of these tiny turtles. Shine only.
 
Silver Creek Fire Tower/Reservoir Hike
Join us on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. as we explore the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park and visit Silver Creek Fire Tower and Reservoir. This hike is 8.5 miles in length and difficult. The pine stands and brush are perfect habitat for birds and other wildlife. Meet at the visitor parking lot at Locust Lake State Park located just before the contact station and we will carpool. Bring a lunch and your dog for a nice relaxing hike in the woods. All pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Registration is required by contacting Robin at 570-467-2506. Shine only.
 
Basic Kayaking Courses at Tuscarora State Park
Join the Park Naturalist at Tuscarora State Park for a basic kayaking course. Kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices will be provided. Maximum weight capacity is 275 lbs. Registration is required by signing up at the park office prior to the event by calling 570-467-2506 or in person. No on-line or fax registrations will be taken. Each participant can send a donation check of $10.00 made payable to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or $10.00 in cash to the park office to hold your reservation. The class will be cancelled in case of inclement weather. There is limited space for the program. If you have your own equipment, you may join us for $3.00 per person. Meet at the “Lakeside Concessions” stand at Tuscarora State Park. Each child must be accompanied by an adult and be 12 years of age or older.

Oak Loop Trail Hike
Join Park Naturalist Robin Tracey on the Oak Loop Trail at Locust Lake State Park on Monday, May 29, 2017. The trail is 4 miles in length and difficult. The trail loops around Locust Creek and traverses up the mountain for a really great view of the forest below. Part of the hike includes the “Tree Identification Trail” created by one of our Eagle Scouts. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Please meet at the visitor parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Shine only.
 
How Indians Communicated
Conservation volunteer, Dave McSurdy, will present a program at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the Locust Lake State Park program shelter near the camp store. He will explain that Indians did not have a written language, so they used other forms of language to communicate. “Big Owl” McSurdy will talk about marks on rocks known as “petroglyphs” and what they were used for. Each program participant will make their own petroglyph to take home. Join us for this very informative and family friendly program. Shine only.
 
Roaring Creek Tract Hike
Join the Park Naturalist from Tuscarora State Park at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 for a hike at Roaring Creek Watershed, north of Mount Carmel. This hike is 8.5 miles in length and moderate in difficulty. The hike passes by two large reservoirs. We will meet at the Roaring Creek Watershed parking lot located on Route 42 below Aristes.
